Welcome to the Macmillan group website
Our group is actively engaged in the synthesis and semi-synthesis of modified peptides and proteins. Protein synthesis and semi-synthesis will be important in unravelling the mechanisms of action of processes involving post-translationally modified (glycosylated, phosphorylated) proteins since such processes are not template driven and not under direct genetic control. This endeavour makes use of synthetic organic chemistry, molecular biology, protein expression and protein engineering.
Increasingly we are trying to develop sustainable and environmentally benign methods for the production of cyclic and/or functionalised peptides and proteins. Other projects include glycosyltransferase engineering, antimicrobial peptide synthesis, and synthesis and utility of transition metal complexes.
The Macmillan group is based within the Department of Chemistry at UCL.
